When the Durban was in a precarious position a volunteer group called Friends of the Maritime Museum (FOMM)  was formed, and took the bull by the horns and did what was required.

It turned out great and the FOMM now have a vessel open to the public, but still have a mountain of work.

The Group is fortunate in that the vessel is permanently moored at the Port Natal Maritime Museum and is owned by the City of Durban Municipality, who funds a large portion of the material required. The labour is carried out by FOMM at no cost to the City.

The FOMM are a member of the Ton Class Association.
